The Solar Plexus Chakra

The Solar Plexus Chakra . The Third Chakra . The “Gut” Chakra

My third chakra came up in a recent reiki session.  Specifically, the fact that it was blocked, is what came up.  #bugger

Located just behind the naval and below the rib cage, this chakra is where our personal power, self-esteem and the power of transformation is sourced, and on a physical level, it helps control our metabolism and digestion.

Hmmm….probably didn’t need a reiki to tell me this baby was blocked, however I always love getting confirmation about the way I’m feeling.

To be honest, lately I’ve been feeling a stuck and a bit flat.  I’ve been doing so much work on myself this past year and a half that I’m right at this very moment in time struggling to take the next step.  I have an idea/dream of the direction I want to head, but am struggling with the steps on how to get there and the motivation - getting caught up in the everyday grind, so I end up procrastinating.

So if you’re feeling at all like me and think you might also be experiencing an imbalanced third chakra – feeling a little low self-esteem, a lack of focus and direction, or perhaps even finding it difficult to make decisions and move forward, then it’s time we start listening to our gut, my friends.  We need to tune into our solar plexus for guidance, and the more we do this and the more small baby steps we take, the stronger and more balanced our third chakra will become.

By getting in tune with this chakra to help us assert our will in a healthy way, we can achieve any goal we set out to accomplish!  Feeling self-confident, self-motivated and glowing from the inside with a strong sense of purpose.  You with me!

Some simple, practical ways we can begin to balance our Solar Plexus Chakra

Colour | As the colour of this chakra is yellow|gold – wearing clothing or crystals corresponding to this will help to open the solar plexus and bring energy to the spleen, liver, pancreas and stomach.  Look to yellow topaz, golden yellow labradorite and tiger-eye stones.

Affirmations | A super simple and useful tool. Starting the day with affirmations can help put you in a wonderful frame of mind, and since the solar plexus chakra is closely tied with strength and a healthy sense of self, affirmations that focus on self-acceptance and boundaries are the best, for example:

  • I love and accept myself

  • I respect and honour myself

  • I can achieve anything I desire

  • I believe in myself

Essential Oils | One of my favourite tools, as they can be worn as perfume, used in oil diffusers, or a few drops added to a bath.  Oils associated with this chakra are generally warm and a bit spicy, including:

  • chamomile

  • lemon

  • ginger

  • black pepper

  • cinnamon

  • clove

Digestion | To help strengthen our “digestive fire”, perhaps look to add more of these wonderful foods to your diet:

  •  sweet potatoes

  • pumpkins

  • lentils

  • yellow and orange capsicums

  • yellow beets

  • lemons

  • yellow pears

  • golden apples

  • brown rice

  • oats
