BODY: Epsom Salt Bath
Magnesium. Essential for our body’s ability to produce TSH (thyroid hormone), and unfortunately, is a mineral my body is deficient in. Ho hum.
Some of the general signs that you too could be deficient, include:
Fatigue
Restless legs
Dizziness
Stress
Belly bloat
As I write this I’m personally ticking off all the boxes at the same time!!
Apart from increasing my intake of magnesium rich foods from dark green leafy vegetables, nuts and seeds, avocado and raw cacao, I’ve also taken to my bath tub, in a big way, and I couldn’t be happier!
I’m a bath person from way back, so when I discovered the wonderful way Epsom Salt baths can help replenish our body’s levels of magnesium, I jumped in whole heartily.
Here are just 3 of the benefits a simple Epsom Salt bath might be able to help you too:
Ease stress levels | Did you know that stress can actually drain our bodies of magnesium? Soaking in an Epsom Salt bath will not only help to replenish our magnesium level, but will also help promote a feeling of calm and relaxation. It helps reduce irritability and is wonderful for promoting a good night’s sleep.
Detox | This is one for all you Hashimoto people out there! The naturally occurring sulfates in Epsom Salts help to reduce inflammation and flush out toxins and heavy metals as well as help strengthen the digestive tract at the same time.
Smooth Skin| Wonderful for soothing dry, itchy skin. Helping to keep skin soft and smooth, preventing wrinkles.
So how do I take mine....
Fill the tub with warm water and add 1-2 cups of Epsom salts to the running water. Don't make it too hot!
Add 1/2 cup of Himalayan salt (known to help reduce inflammation)
Add drops (around 6-10) of your favourite essential oils (I tend to use Lavender)
Add a heaped tablespoon of coconut oil once the bath is ready
Soak and enjoy for at least 20 minutes!
