The Gut Chakra | Part I

Did you know that poor gut health can actually suppress your thyroid and trigger Hashimoto’s disease (Hypothyroidism)?

I don’t know about you, but one of the biggest issues I experience from having Hashimoto’s is my digestion.  Or should I say, my lack of digestion.  Some days it’s as though my body has said “enough”, packed its bags and gone on holidays.  My metabolism stops.  My tummy bloats and fatigue sets in.   Big time!

Are you the same?

The more I learn and pick the brains of all my holistic practitioners, it is becoming crystal clear that you cannot have a healthy gut without a healthy thyroid, and you cannot have a healthy thyroid without a healthy gut.  You have to address both at the same time!

When the gut chakra is happily balanced, you should feel a wonderful sense of self-worth.  Isn’t that what we’re all aiming for in life?!  You can easily set and keep boundaries, have a healthy digestive system, sleep well, have balanced cortisol and insulin levels and have that wonderful ability to tune into your gut feelings.

Yep, it's confirmed.  My Gut (3rd) Chakra is way out of balance.

So what am I doing about this, I hear you ask?  Here are 4 simple daily activities I’m working on:

Meditation | I’m giving myself 5/10/15 minutes a day (usually at the end of the day, before switching off the bedside lamp) to listen to a gentle, guided meditation.  The more I do it, the more I crave it

Slowing down | Practicing saying “no” to events and invites that simply don’t toot my horn.  I’m trying to focus on only one special event each day, and not filling my days with activities that make me feel tired, rushed and not in the moment (work in progress!)

Gentle exercises | Continuing to get outside and walk each and every day as well as my weekly pilates and yoga practices.  I’m especially loving Yin Yoga at the moment

Belly breathing | Such a simple concept, but something I have to really stop and focus on as I find myself shallow breathing throughout the day

Remember - you are worthy!
