Pecans + Your Thyroid

 

Pecans.  Rich in monounsaturated fatty acids, they can help decrease “bad cholesterol” and increases “good cholesterol” levels in the blood.

 

Seriously.  A simple nut can help do this?!

 

They’re also a wonderful nut to consume for those of us suffering the effects of hypothyroidism, as they’re a rich source of manganese, potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, and selenium.   

 

Did you know that magnesium and zinc are needed to help our bodies, specifically our pituitary gland in the brain, to produce the thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH)?  This in turn stimulates our thyroid gland into making 2 hormones – Triiodothyronine (T3) and Thyroxine (T4), which then both help to control our body’s metabolism.

 

Zinc is also very much needed for our body's immune system to properly work, playing a role in cell division, cell growth and wound healing.  Did you know that it’s also needed for our sense of smell and taste?

 

As you can see, something that is very much needed by us all.

 

So basically, not only are you supporting your thyroid, your metabolism and your taste buds  by eating these cookies, you’re also getting a an extra vitamin E and beta-carotene boost to boot.
